Frequently Asked Questions

Pilates is a system of exercise created by Joseph Pilates inspired by body weight calisthenics. It was originally designed for injured individuals to maintain strength while their bodies healed. He later designed a number of Pilates machines to help individuals grow their strength, body awareness, and control.

Our Pilates sessions take place on Pilates Reformers and Pilates towers. Private clients also have access to the Pilates Wunda chair, ladder barrel, and Cadillac. These machines allow for increased challenges and specificity of body movements. The use of the apparatus also allows many modifications to be made for injuries or conditions.
-
Our group classes are no more than 6 people with plenty of room for individualized attention from the instructor, but less personalized attention than a private or duet session offers. Privates and duets can move at the individual client’s pace or focus on specific concerns or conditions.
-
Wear something comfortable that you can move in. Socks with rubber grips are suggested but not required. No shoes are to be worn on the equipment.

Plaza Pilates is a contemporary Pilates studio. That said, though, those terms (especially contemporary) encompass a wide array of different movement options. While we are a contemporary studio, we still approach the work through the lens of Joseph Pilates’ original material and intentions. Some of our instructors teach a little closer to the classical style, while others are solidly contemporary.
