Elisabeth Martin is from Bloomington, IN where she started training in ballet at the Indiana University Pre-College Ballet Program. Through various summer intensives she was introduced to Pilates mat exercises as an effective cross training method. When she was attending high school at the Walnut Hill School in Natick, Mass. She had her first major injury and had to have ankle surgery. As part of her rehabilitation she was put onto a Pilates reformer to help regain ankle flexibility and strength. It not only got her back to dancing in a month but also improved all aspects of her physicality. She continued her studies with the Indiana University Ballet Theater earning a degree in ballet performance. While in college she started her Pilates teacher training at Lotus Pilates in Bloomington, IN with Corinna Cosentino who received her certification in 1998 from Amy Halaby de Sa at Body Balance Studios in Chicago. Amy studied under Romana Kryzanowska, who studied directly with Joseph and Clara Pilates. Elisabeth simultaneously earned a degree in Exercise Science and a minor in Mathematics through Indiana University, which gave her a deeper understanding of anatomy, and body biomechanics.

After graduation she accepted a job with Rochester City Ballet in Rochester, NY. While in Rochester she continued to teach Pilates in a studio setting and also worked closely with Callan-Harris Physical Therapy to help patients from a variety of backgrounds including musicians, dancers, scoliosis patients, those with chronic physical conditions, and rehab post injury through Pilates. She moved to New York to continue her dance career as a freelancing artist and continue to help people achieve their personal and professional goals through Pilates.

Since moving to New York over ten years ago, she has worked with people from all walks of life at both Pilates Reforming New York and Balanced Pilates. In 2021 she joined the Manhattan Plaza Health Club team and then helped open Plaza Pilates in 2023 at the studio Manager. She is so excited to lead such a great team who are so passionate about bringing Pilates to the Manhattan Plaza community.
